Toto Wolff says Lewis Hamilton “had a bad spell”, which can be “mind-crashing”, but “this is not a situation that suddenly he has unlearned driving”.
Lewis Hamilton finished the Austrian Grand Prix in P4, but afterwards he blamed himself for a performance that he believes was not up to par.
Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff, however, doesn’t believe Lewis should be so hard on himself.
“He had a bad spell,” the Austrian said.
“As a racing driver, it can be mind-crashing if you feel like you are not able to deliver your best performances in races.

“I just saw him now. He needs to go through this. This is not a situation that suddenly he has unlearned driving.
“Things have come together. He had a brilliant race in Barcelona, so we have just got to dive through this.”
Wolff then made a promise to everybody.
“We are going to win a race with him this year,” he concluded.
